‘Tidsoptimist\u2014a person who’s habitually late because they think they have more time than they do’.<\/em><\/p>\n

Had I only known this word earlier, everything would have made sense to me. But I guess I didn\u2019t have enough time to Google it because I was too busy missing my deadlines and disappointing others for not showing up on time.<\/p>\n

No entanto, um tidsoptimista \u00e9 uma esp\u00e9cie de otimista da vida. Um tidsoptimista \u00e9 totalmente otimista em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao tempo. V\u00eaem as horas como segundos e \u00e9 por isso que \u00e9 t\u00e3o dif\u00edcil serem realistas em rela\u00e7\u00e3o aos prazos e \u00e0s diferentes tarefas que t\u00eam em m\u00e3os.<\/p>\n

Ser otimista em geral \u00e9 uma boa carater\u00edstica, mas ser otimista em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao tempo \u00e9 um pouco complicado. Embora n\u00e3o seja bom estar demasiado ansioso por ser sempre pontual, tamb\u00e9m n\u00e3o \u00e9 bom ser demasiado otimista em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a isso.<\/p>\n

Mas tamb\u00e9m tem alguns aspectos positivos e, se discutirmos o assunto com algu\u00e9m, essa pessoa concordar\u00e1 que \u00e9 muito dif\u00edcil classific\u00e1-lo como mau ou bom. Os tidsoptimistas sabem-no muito bem. Eu sei-o muito bem.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve almost lost my job because I would always be late, making lame excuses, and you cannot fool people for all eternity. Sooner or later, they will realize that you\u2019ve got some issues regarding time and when that time comes, you better be good at explaining it to them.<\/p>\n

A mente de um tidsoptimista parece um eterno campo de batalha onde o tempo \u00e9 o seu companheiro e o seu pior inimigo ao mesmo tempo. <\/b>You think you are rocking it until you realize that you\u2019re late again and you have to face all of those disappointing faces waiting for you to apologize.<\/p>\n

But the thing is, we\u2019re not doing any of it on purpose. We really try to arrive on time but somehow we are prevented from doing so, either because we get occupied with something else or because we think there is more time than there actually is.<\/p>\n

Queremos fazer tudo ao mesmo tempo<\/b><\/p>\n

Come\u00e7amos a fazer uma coisa e, se nos pedirem ajuda, passamos imediatamente para voc\u00eas e depois voltamos ao que est\u00e1vamos a fazer. Mas entre as mudan\u00e7as, normalmente perdemos a no\u00e7\u00e3o do tempo e \u00e9 a\u00ed que come\u00e7amos a entrar em p\u00e2nico, sabendo que volt\u00e1mos a faz\u00ea-lo.<\/p>\n

A maior maldi\u00e7\u00e3o de ser um tidsoptimista \u00e9 que tudo tem de ser feito numa determinada ordem. Assim, se a sua rotina matinal inclui lavar os dentes, vestir-se, tomar o pequeno-almo\u00e7o e fazer caf\u00e9, ter\u00e1 de a cumprir, independentemente das consequ\u00eancias.<\/p>\n

We simply cannot skip making our coffee because it is a part of our ritual and no matter how late we are, we just can\u2019t fight the urge to finish all of what we\u2019ve imagined beforehand. And we know it\u2019s silly and dumb but that\u2019s just how we function.<\/p>\n

Pensamos sempre que h\u00e1 tempo suficiente<\/b><\/p>\n

If you ask an optimist what time it is, he will tell you that there is plenty of time instead of giving you the exact information that you\u2019ve asked for. It is because we are sure that there is plenty of time, even though we have no evidence of that.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s deeply ingrained in our being and fighting it only means making it worse. Sometimes it\u2019s good to be stress-free and think that you won\u2019t be late anywhere because time is your friend. It\u2019s good to be able to relax and chill in your free time, not being anxious about all the things waiting for you to finish them.<\/p>\n

But when it comes to deadlines, this kind of thinking simply kills us. And we realize it when it\u2019s too late. We will be thinking that we still have time until someone comes to us to say that we fucked it up again.<\/p>\n

Os prazos s\u00e3o o nosso inimigo mortal<\/b><\/p>\n

Some people are afraid of death but tidsoptimists are afraid of deadlines. There is something about the feeling of being limited to finish something when someone else tells you or when it\u2019s supposed to be so.<\/p>\n

Deadlines feel like the biggest destroyers of our chilly world and we will never understand why people bother so much to arrive everywhere on time. Wouldn\u2019t we be much more creative and passionate if we didn\u2019t bother so much about time?<\/p>\n

Perhaps the restriction of time is something that kills our joy inside but at the same time, it is something you can\u2019t function without (at least, that\u2019s why they say). So, when someone gives us a deadline, we try really hard to remember it, even though we know we\u2019ll fuck it up again.<\/p>\n

But there is this tiny spark of hope that maybe this time we will finish it right on time and not five seconds before or after the deadline. And we pray to God that He gives us strength and a release of anxiety while we\u2019re on our journey to accomplish this ultimate task of finishing something in time.<\/p>\n

Alarms simply don\u2019t work for us<\/b><\/p>\n

People who invented alarms probably didn\u2019t have in mind a tidsoptimist. They couldn\u2019t predict that people like me would find alarms totally useless. But who are we to blame them.<\/p>\n

So, dear alarm people, I\u2019m sorry to tell you that alarm sounds for tidsoptimists are just reminders that they have enough time to get up, get dressed, eat breakfast and make coffee. Of course, they have enough time until they realize that they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

And that is the beauty of being a tidsoptimist. You\u2019re optimistic till the last second and you won\u2019t let anyone contradict your beliefs because you\u2019re sure of yourself (for the time being) and your hope never dies.<\/p>\n

You tell yourself that you won\u2019t be late this time, even though you know you\u2019re fooling yourself and others. And then you have to face the dark side of being a tidsoptimist and that is missed deadlines, late arrivals and facing the disappointment.<\/p>\n

Mas, por outro lado, por um segundo, sentimos que o mundo se tornou um lugar melhor quando encontramos pessoas da nossa esp\u00e9cie e elas nos d\u00e3o aquele sorriso, o que significa que nos compreendem.<\/p>\n
