When I get my heart broken, the pain usually blinds me to the point where I don\u2019t manage to learn anything from it. Besides, I often lose the ability to see things realistically.<\/p>\r\n

Quando passo por uma separa\u00e7\u00e3o devastadora, o meu \u00fanico objetivo \u00e9 ultrapassar a situa\u00e7\u00e3o o mais rapidamente poss\u00edvel.<\/p>\r\n

I\u2019m doing my best to find a way to seguir em frente<\/span><\/a> com a minha vida e para me curar de tudo o que aconteceu, por isso acabo muitas vezes por perder algumas li\u00e7\u00f5es valiosas que o meu desgosto me poderia ter ensinado.<\/p>\r\n

However, when the people around me go through the same shit, I\u2019m different.<\/p>\r\n

Besides being there to comfort them, somehow, I also find a way to observe the situation and \u2013 most importantly \u2013 learn from their mistakes.<\/p>\r\n

1. Sometimes love isn\u2019t enough<\/h2>\r\n

When I was younger, I was a hopeless romantic who thought that love conquers everything. However, even though I still consider it to be a powerful force, I now know that sadly, it\u2019s not almighty.<\/p>\r\n

Com o passar do tempo, vi muitas das minhas amigas afastarem-se de homens de quem ainda gostavam muito.<\/p>\r\n

Vi-os a serem for\u00e7ados a partir os seus pr\u00f3prios cora\u00e7\u00f5es ao fazerem o que estava certo e a sa\u00edrem de uma rela\u00e7\u00e3o que obviamente n\u00e3o tinha futuro.<\/p>\r\n

So I guess that as we grow older, we learn that there are times when love isn\u2019t enough.<\/p>\r\n

Times when two people can\u2019t make their relationship work, despite all the feelings they have for each other.<\/p>\r\n

You see, the tough truth is that love alone can never preserve a relationship that has no mutual respect; it can\u2019t save a couple that has too many differences.<\/p>\r\n

Uma rela\u00e7\u00e3o saud\u00e1vel precisa de muito mais do que o facto de ambos os parceiros se amarem. Precisa de compromisso, compaix\u00e3o, apre\u00e7o e objectivos m\u00fatuos. Caso contr\u00e1rio, nunca resultar\u00e1.<\/p>\r\n

2. People don\u2019t change<\/h2>\r\n

Another important thing other people\u2019s breakups taught me is that love can\u2019t change someone<\/span><\/a> at\u00e9 que decidam mudar.<\/p>\r\n

Tem a op\u00e7\u00e3o de aceitar o seu parceiro pelo que ele realmente \u00e9 desde o in\u00edcio ou de se afastar a seu tempo.<\/p>\r\n

Let\u2019s face it. No matter how crazy you are for someone, there are always parts of him you hope to modify sometime in the future.<\/p>\r\n

Bem, \u00e9 altura de esquecer todos esses planos, porque conseguir isso \u00e9 uma miss\u00e3o imposs\u00edvel.<\/p>\r\n

Over the years, I saw my friends getting involved with addicts, immature boys, serial cheaters, players\u2026 And each one of them thought they could change their guy.<\/p>\r\n

They were convinced that they were the ones who would bring light to these men\u2019s worlds, the ones who would show them the way, who would inspire them to be better and to leave their pasts behind.<\/p>\r\n

Adivinha o que aconteceu? Nenhum dos meus amigos conseguiu.<\/p>\r\n

Cada uma delas acabou por ficar desiludida, tendo perdido anos da sua vida \u00e0 espera de uma mudan\u00e7a que nunca chegou; os seus namorados continuaram a ser os mesmos homens que eram antes de os conhecerem.<\/p>\r\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong, this doesn\u2019t mean that people don\u2019t have the ability to change some parts of their personality.<\/p>\r\n

However, it is one thing when a person decides to make these changes because they realize it is the right thing to do and something they want. It is completely different if they\u2019re doing it to please someone else.<\/p>\r\n

3. Um cora\u00e7\u00e3o partido cura-se sempre<\/h2>\r\n

Whenever one of my friends came to me after a painful breakup, she was convinced that she\u2019d remain this hurt forever. That her heart would forever be shattered in pieces and that she\u2019d never recover.<\/p>\r\n

A maioria de n\u00f3s \u00e9 praticamente igual. Quando terminamos as coisas com os homens que amamos, vemo-lo como o fim do mundo.<\/p>\r\n

Eu n\u00e3o era diferente. Quando tive a minha primeira separa\u00e7\u00e3o, pensei que iria passar o resto da minha vida a chorar, sentindo a falta desse homem e desejando a sua presen\u00e7a.<\/p>\r\n

No entanto, depois lembrei-me de todas as pessoas \u00e0 minha volta que passaram pela mesma merda antes de mim.<\/p>\r\n

I remembered my friends\u2019 sleepless nights, their tears, and the way they saw their heartbreaks as the worst thing that could possibly happen.<\/p>\r\n

Lembrei-me que cada um deles recuperou com sucesso. Que cada um deles curou as suas feridas e seguiu em frente com a sua vida.<\/p>\r\n

Ent\u00e3o, pensei que um o cora\u00e7\u00e3o partido cura-se sempre<\/span><\/a>N\u00e3o importa o que aconte\u00e7a. Os deles fizeram-no, os meus fizeram-no, e os vossos tamb\u00e9m o far\u00e3o. Posso prometer-vos isso.<\/p>\r\n
