Uma carta aberta ao meu melhor amigo: Tu mereces o mundo

You know… Sometimes words just aren’t enough to describe our feelings to a loved one. To someone who means the world to you… The world and so much more… That special someone and the person with whom I share the strongest and deepest connection is a minha melhor amiga.

And even though words can’t portray everything she means to me, I decided to pour out my feelings in this short letter and thank her for everything she did and is still doing for me. So, here it is… An open letter to my melhor amigo, a minha rocha e a minha companheira para sempre.

Querido melhor amigo,

I know you’d argue with me on this one, but I really think you deserve the world.

It floors me that you’re not even aware of what a good friend you are.

Actually, you’re not aware of that mais of the time. That’s why I’m writing this heartfelt open carta ao meu melhor amigo, para o meu alma gémea platónica, to “my person,” … to you.

O único que me conhece tão profundamente, mas que escolhe amar-me com tanto orgulho.

Tenho de admitir que muitas vezes me pego a pensar no que fiz para te merecer.

You came just at the right moment in my life, and you’ve stuck around through thick and thin.

I thank God every single day that our paths crossed because you’re the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time. Because of you, I’m even more sure that someone’s watching over me from above.

You light up the room the moment you enter it, and you’re so oblivious to that.

And it’s so hard to not notice it. It comes naturally to people to shift their attention to you, and you’re none the wiser.

Acredito genuinamente que me tornas uma pessoa melhor só por seres a minha melhor amiga e a ajudar-me a navegar nesta coisa chamada vida.

You’re not one of those attention seekers. You are so down-to-earth and modest.

You’re not even trying, and that’s what makes you even more interesting and why people are drawn to you. You deal with real life and all of its ups and downs with such grace and poise.

As pessoas querem estar perto de si. Querem fazer amizade consigo. Querem que a sua energia se transfira para elas.

E tu dás-lhes isso. Damos-lhes esse toque de positividade e força para seguirem em frente.

You’re o meu melhor amigo na terra, but you’re also a dear friend to so many more people we know.

You’re the type of person who makes people’s hearts warm whenever they’re around you.

You make every person around you feel better without even needing to try hard. You’re the first person to lift everyone up and ask for nothing in return.

Being kind-hearted comes so naturally to you. And I’m glad I get to be around you and have your kindness warm my heart as well.

If I could go back in time to when I was in high school, I’d choose you to be my BFF a million times over.

See, you’re the kind of person that only those that never had the privilege of meeting you could live without.

They end up needing your warmth and your tenderness because it’s so easy to get addicted to it.

Neste mundo frio, todos nós precisamos de mais pessoas como tu, com a tua energia positiva e a tua risada sentido de humor.

People need you because you’re genuinely there for them. You are everyone’s shoulder to cry on.

You’re their helping hand in their times of need. You enrich people’s lives more than anyone else I know.

You’re the first to fight for the people you care about, and, knowing you, I doubt you’d have to think twice before jumping into a battlefield and defending those who you truly love.

You’re the most precious gem and you know why? Because you’re um verdadeiro amigo. And that’s so hard to find in this everchanging and hurried world. True friends have truly become a rarity these days.

O que mais me impressiona é a vossa capacidade de perdoar. You do more than just say they are forgiven – you actually mean it.

You’ve been through an awful breakup and you survived heartbreak and yet, you still managed to find the strength deep down in your heart to forgive the guy who made you go through a real hell.

That’s exactly the thing about you that amazes me the most… Your ability to always be the bigger person. Even if people break your heart, even if they betray you or hurt you, you always find a way to see past it all and move on.

Por vezes, é preciso mais tempo e outras vezes é preciso um pouco menos, mas nunca se vê as pessoas através dos seus erros.

Você nunca guardar rancor ou manter os seus deslizes contra eles para a eternidade.

Because you love to believe there is more to them than their mistakes. Because you don’t want to poison your own heart with hate and contempt.

Acredita que todos merecem ser amados e que todos merecem uma segunda oportunidade.

É por isso que estou tão convencida de que um dia vais ser uma mãe tão boa.

While we’re talking about motherhood… I’ll never forget that you were there for me when my mother died. That was definitely the hardest period of my life, and of course, you were there for me, supporting me through my grief.

I’ll never forget that you were with me that first time I visited her grave and all those letters for Mother’s Day you helped me write for her, for my guardian angel in heaven.

You cried with me and you tried so hard to make me smile and to soothe my pain. That’s what verdadeiros amigos do… They laugh together but they also do cry together… And they’re always there for each other, no matter what.

You find hope in people where nobody would ever think of looking, and you keep fighting when any normal person would’ve given up a long time ago.You find a reason to believe in people even when they don’t believe in themselves.

You’re always there for them even if they aren’t always there for you. And you care for them even when they forget about themselves.

I can’t remember a single person you let down because you’re always there to offer people your arms to hug them, your heart to show compassion, and your presence to listen to them and show them they’re not alone.

You don’t let go of people – you always find a reason to stay and try again.

You give your love without holding anything back because love, for you, isn’t an option; love is your mantra, and you decide to give all of your love to others so purely and without even expecting anything in return.

That’s how selfless you are. That’s what’s so amazing about you. And that’s what I love the most about you – and the fact that you always wear your heart on your sleeve.

It’s not only other people who need you. I need you, too, and more than you can wrap your mind around.

You see, you’re way stronger than you realize. You’re a fighter, and yet you’re so sensitive and kind. You’re funny and you’re smart. You’re beautiful, and you’re breathtakingly powerful.

Tu és tudo isto; és o universo inteiro numa só pessoa. Nunca conheci ninguém tão completo como tu.

O seu impacto nas pessoas faz com que elas queiram ser a melhor versão de si próprias. Elas esforçam-se por mais. Alcançam as estrelas.

You influence people. You change them for the better in a way, but please don’t ever let people change you. Don’t let them ruin your kindness or your spark.

Don’t let them turn you into something different or make you believe you should be somebody else, because out of all the people I know, you are the one that God created almost perfectly.

You’re the easiest person to love on this earth and don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Don’t ever change. Don’t give up on the person you are, and please never give up on me either.

Because you are a true blessing in my life. You’re my sister – perhaps not by blood, but definitely by heart.

O ano passado foi difícil para nós os dois. Odeio-o porque nos fez seguir caminhos diferentes na vida e pôs a nossa amizade à prova da distância. Mas só veio confirmar o que já sabíamos: que partilhamos um laço sólido como uma rocha e que não há obstáculo que o possa prejudicar ou destruir.

Tenho saudades tuas cada vez mais com o passar dos dias. A tua presença é algo que anseio todos os dias. Habituar-me a estar contigo com tanta frequência tornou muito mais difícil esta coisa da distância.

Don’t get me wrong. There is nobody on the planet I am more secure in than you.

Sinto falta da maneira como a tua simples presença é capaz de me fazer ver o lado bom de tudo. A forma como me fazes rir quando só me apetece chorar.

É um anjo enviado do céu para cuidar de mim.

Acredito mesmo nisso. Quando eu estava no meu ponto mais baixo, ajudaste-me a levantar-me. Nunca me vou esquecer disso.

Eras aquela voz da razão que me lembrava de me amar mais.

I was drowning in self-pity and my insecurities. I was wounded by other people, by toxic relationships, and I thought I wasn’t enough. Being desperate and alone had become my comfort zone.

Mas aos teus olhos, eu era sempre suficiente. Sempre me disseste que eu era exatamente quem estava destinado a ser.

Deus fez-me assim por uma razão e eu sei que devo estar grata por isso. Somos todos únicos e aprender a aceitar todos os nossos defeitos faz parte da vida da qual ninguém pode escapar.Quando a minha vida era boa, tu eras o único feliz por mim, enquanto todos os outros tinham inveja.

I know that can be harder than being with somebody through bad times. People find comfort in the misery of others because they realize that they are not alone in theirs. In a way, that’s human and pretty normal.

But you are better than that. No matter what stage of your life you are in, you are always happy for others or you empathize with their sadness. It’s a gift, I’m telling you.

Acho que o mundo só precisa de mais pessoas como tu. Seria um sítio melhor para viver.

I know you don’t see yourself in the way I’ve written here, but that’s only because you’ve never looked at yourself through my eyes.

You do deserve the world because you’re there for people who preciso de sie fazem deste mundo um lugar verdadeiramente melhor.

Se ainda estão a pensar porque é que estou a escrever isto carta aberta ao meu melhor amigoA razão pela qual não me lembro de ter feito isto a ti, ao melhor amigo que uma pessoa pode desejar, tem duas razões.

First, I want to tell you that I see you. And I admire everything you’ve shown me till this moment. I admire your kindness, your courage, and your drive.

Mesmo quando cais, nunca ficas no chão. E sempre que eu caio, tu puxas-me para cima.

E quero agradecer-te por me teres escolhido e por fazeres parte da minha vida. Estou eternamente grato por ter alguém como tu ao meu lado.

Quero recordar-vos que merecem muito mais do que aquilo que estão a receber.

I want to remind you that you can’t just keep on giving, you have to take something back from time to time.If you exhaust yourself emotionally, if you harm your own mental health, there will be nothing to give to others or to yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Faça o seu topo autocuidado prioridade para se mimar e amar cada dia mais.

Podíamos planear uma pequena escapadela de fim de semana só para nós as duas ou podíamos organizar uma festa de bem-estar só para raparigas em casa? Ou podemos organizar uma festa do pijama com filmes de miúdas em voga na Netflix.

We didn’t do it for ages and I really miss hanging out with you alone and in person. Thank God for this modern technology and social media because I don’t know how I could live without talking with you every day.

Remember that you also deserve the true love, respect, kindness and everything else you’re unselfishly pouring onto others.

Remember that you need to do things for yourself, too. And don’t forget that I am here for you just as much as you are for me.

One day, you’re going to be standing by my side on my dia do casamentoO meu pai, que me fez perder os nervos e se riu o dia todo comigo, como sempre fazemos. Mal posso esperar para partilhar esse momento convosco, juntamente com uma vida inteira de memórias que nos esperam!

I hope you know how loved, adored, and appreciated you are. By me and by everyone whose life you’ve selflessly entered. You are a gem that shines brighter than the sun.

Continua a ser tu e eu continuarei a amar-te, não importa onde a vida me leve.
