Una conmovedora carta de cumpleaños a mi maravilloso marido

Querido esposo,

¿Por dónde empiezo? Recuerdo el día en que te vi por primera vez como si fuera la semana pasada. Era una estudiante de primer año aprendiendo a moverme por el campus, sin tener ni idea de lo importante que iba a ser ese año para mí y para mi futuro.

Estaba empezando a conocer a la gente de allí y puedo decir felizmente que hice algunos amigos para toda la vida.

Mi amiga Stella, con la que literalmente me había hecho amiga unas semanas antes (y que ahora es la madrina de nuestra hija), pensó que sería buena idea que conociera a su amiga, que creía que encajaría muy bien conmigo.

I was just out of a relationship as I didn’t see much sense in staying with my high-school BF since I was moving to the other side of the country, so it was a rough few weeks for me, adjusting to a life without him, trying to keep my spirits up.

Stella kept bugging me about this friend of hers, and even though I wasn’t in a good place (at least when it came to dating, I didn’t think I was ready at ALL), I decided to go for drinks with her and a couple of other people—YOU included.

I had to make myself go, and I almost didn’t even show up.. but I thank the Lord I did.

The moment I arrived at the pub, I saw this amazing looking guy…with eyes bluer than the skies and a smile that seemed so genuine and real.

Inmediatamente empecé a preguntarme si serías tú, así que cuando por fin me acerqué a la mesa y me senté, Stella nos presentó, y tenía razón, ¡eras tú!

I couldn’t contain my excitement. I was attracted to you the moment I saw you across that pub, and getting to know you, I realized that there was a fantastic human on the inside as well.

Era como si no existiera nadie más en la mesa. Tú y yo no parábamos por AIRE. Era como si te conociera desde hacía años, y yo sentía lo mismo de ti.

The ‘’date’’ went perfectly. Even though we weren’t alone, it really felt like we were! I don’t know if you knew it then, but I had no doubts about you from that day on.

Nuestras citas continuaron, y yo me enamoraba más perdidamente cada día que pasaba. Hiciste que me olvidara por completo de mi desamor.

Fuiste encantador, real, divertido y alentador. Nunca me presionaste para nada y entendiste por qué quería ir despacio contigo.

Meeting you that day was one of the best decisions of my life because had I not appeared for drinks that night, I wouldn’t be the luckiest wife and mother in the world at this very moment.

Hiciste que mis años universitarios pasaran volando como si fueran coser y cantar, ¡y todo fue mucho más fácil sabiendo que te tenía a ti!

Nos hicimos más fuertes con el paso de los años, y todo el mundo sabía que éramos destinado a ser. Éramos como dos gotas de agua.

I have to tell you… you truly made me the happiest girl in the world just by being so patient, loving, kind, and considerate, and I couldn’t imagine being any happier… until the day you proposed.

It was the last year of college. We were living together, and we had so many plans for the future. We were both successfully nearing the very end of our college years, and knowing I didn’t have to say goodbye to you was the only thing that kept me in one piece.

So one day, I got home from drinks with Stella and a few of our close girlfriends, and I was feeling particularly down because it was only a matter of weeks before they all went back home, and I couldn’t stand the thought of not seeing them every single day.

Te diste cuenta de que estaba un poco desanimado, así que supongo que decidiste alegrarme el día, ¡y vaya si lo hiciste!

Esperaste a que saliera de la ducha, despejara un poco la mente y me sentara en el sofá en toalla frente al televisor.

You sat beside me and asked if there was anything you could do to make me feel better. I instantly replied ‘’No’’, but I was thankful you cared so much.

And then you asked me: ‘’Are you sure?’’, and you whipped out a little box that changed my life forever.

You opened it… and asked me: ‘’How about now?’’ with the biggest, happiest smile I had ever seen on you, and all I can remember is crying my eyes out, hugging you SO tightly and barely finding the words to say: ‘’YES, a million times yes!’’

And even though I already knew you were a keeper…that moment cemented it. I literally could not have been any happier, and my world had just gotten a million times better.

Y ahora, en su cumpleaños, I want to tell you that I was wrong. I thought I couldn’t possibly any happier then, but right now, at this very moment, I can proudly tell you that I am the happiest I have ever been, by far!

Looking back on our life together, our college years, then when real life hit us, and now having this beautiful angel of a daughter, and our relationship being stronger than ever, I don’t think there is anyone more grateful than I am today.

You are the most loving husband I ever could’ve dreamed of. Your support through our daily life is everything to me. The way you look at me gives me instant comfort and a sense of security.

Usted es mi rocaMi salvador y mi confidente más cercano. Haces que los momentos más difíciles parezcan más fáciles y que los mejores sean mucho mejores.

I wish you the happiest birthday my love… It truly is a special day. I didn’t think I would find something like this ever. I thought that love of this kind existed only in movies and that real life was way different.

Meeting you proved to me that I really don’t need that movie type of love anyway. I love you now more than I ever did then. I don’t need you to be perfect (even though you are the closest thing to it). I just need you to estar allí¡y lo eres!

Cuando estaba pasando por un mal momento durante ese último año de universidad, despidiéndome de Stella y de nuestra pandilla, sintiéndome tan mal por tener que separarme (aunque sólo físicamente) de mi mejores amigos en el mundo... fuisteis tan comprensivos y solidarios.

Hace unos años, cuando decidiste darme la mejor de las sorpresas y trajiste en secreto a Stella para mi cumpleaños, te agradecí enormemente que supieras exactamente lo que me haría llorar de alegría.

Flying in my best friend that I loved (and still do) like a sister, whom I hadn’t seen in a whole year made my entire week! I didn’t know if I was happier for seeing her or for having the world’s most thoughtful husband!

Gracias de nuevo, mi amor, por conocerme tan bien y hacer siempre todo lo que está en tu mano para que sea lo más feliz posible. ¿Cómo podré pagarte?

Thank you for being the most selfless human being I know. You always do what’s right, not caring how it affects you personally, and you always put everyone else’s needs before your own.

Eres una amiga increíble, ¡y sé cuánto te quieren tus amigos! Me encanta verte ser tan amable, divertida y humilde con todos ellos, y no me sorprende en absoluto que todos aparezcan siempre que los necesitas.

You are the world’s greatest dad! I know our journey to parenthood was a challenging and a difficult one, to say the least… but you persevered, and you never gave up. When I was close to giving up, you were the one encouraging me to keep going and not lose hope.

Y hoy, después de años de luchar por concebir, nuestro perfecto angelito está aquí, ¡y no paras de demostrarle lo mucho que la quiere su papi!

Veros juntos es mi pasatiempo favorito. Te quiere muchísimo. Me encanta que siempre quiera que le leas un cuento antes de dormir. Me encanta cómo le hablas, cómo la mimas y cómo siempre tienes tiempo para ella.

You never let her feel like she’s alone. If she wants you to play with her, you drop everything and you’re right there on the floor, up to your elbows in toys, coloring books, and whatnot.

Siempre supe que serías un padre increíble. Te sale tan natural. Y me encanta el vínculo que tienes con nuestra pequeña. ¡Ustedes dos son mis personas favoritas en la Tierra!

Estoy muy orgullosa de llamarte mi marido. Sé que no eres muy dado a las muestras de cariño, pero yo sí, y tus cumpleaños son el único momento en el que me dejas expresarte mi profundo amor y gratitud sin poner los ojos en blanco (juguetonamente, por supuesto).

Te pones tan tímido cuando te hacen un cumplido que es una de las muchas razones por las que Te quiero so much. You just do these amazing things for everyone, never expect anything in return and don’t seek validation, ever. You just do it out of the goodness of your heart.

Thank you for making me so happy every single day. Thank you for being understanding when my work schedule is crazy, and you have to pick up our girl when it’s my turn.

Thank you for never complaining when I ask you to drop everything and do something last minute. I know it’s not convenient for you, and I never take it for granted.

Thank you for loving my family like it’s your own! You have no idea how much it means to me seeing your bond with my parents and my sisters. They all love you almost as much as I do.

I genuinely think that there isn’t a person in this world you can’t get along with!

Thank you for not pressuring me to get a job straight out of college even though we could’ve used the extra money. Thank you for letting me find something I truly felt passionate about, and not making me feel like I was foolish for taking so much time finding myself.

Whenever I’m down, you always know just what to say to put a smile on my face. You truly are one special person, my love! I don’t think I have ever laughed with anyone the amount I laugh with you!

Sometimes I feel like you should be a comedian, but then I change my mind because I don’t want to share you! I am too selfish that way. I want you all to myself.

Meeting you ten years ago was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made, and thinking what would’ve happened with my life had I not met you is unbearable.
