A Letter To My Single Mom: Thank You For Being My Rock

A Letter To My Single Mom: Thank You For Being My Rock

Dear Mom,

Every single child deserves to have a mom and a dad! I know it is often said that moms are the ones who sometimes play both roles by going the extra mile for their kids, but in my case, you were the only one who made an effort. You were the one who was a father and a mother to me and you never let me feel bad about not having my dad with us.

Thanks to you, to my mother, to my hero, to my warrior, I never craved a father’s love because you made sure that you gave enough all by yourself. And today, I want to thank you for everything you did for me. So Mom, if you are reading these lines, I want you to know this:

Thank you!

For holding my hand for such a long time, taking care that nothing bad ever happened to me. Thank you for wiping away the tears from my eyes every time other kids would insult me, telling me that my dad left us because I was not worthy. Thank you for protecting me from having a bad mouth and for always telling me that I am special and unique just the way I am.

Now that I am an adult, I abide by all the things you said to me and they are like my rules I never break. Your words had so much wisdom Mom, and now that I am a grown-up person, I can totally understand them.

Now, I understand that you loved me even when I didn’t love myself. You always gave me enough space and time so I could become the person I am today. You never mocked my dreams, telling me that something was impossible but you were always the wind beneath my wings, telling me that I just needed to close my eyes and wish really hard for something to happen. Because of you, I made my dreams come true and for that, I will always be thankful to you.

So, Mom, thank you!

Thank you for staying away from me and giving me space when I needed it the most. Living with me when I was a teenager was anything but simple. But you never yelled at me or showed that it was hard to go through all that process alone. You never said that I was a problem for you even when I made your life a living hell. You always told me that I was a blessing, the best thing that happened to you and that I would always be one.

And because of that—thank you!

Thank you for being proud of me for every single success that I achieved. Thank you for cheering for me, not only for yourself but as a dad, too. Thank you for making sure that I never felt that he wasn’t there. Thank you for being both my mom and dad, Mom!

Now that I have kids of my own, I can see how hard it is to raise them even if they have a dad who is always there. And I can’t imagine how hard it was for you to raise me when we were alone and when you had to work two different jobs just to provide me with the things I needed for school.

Thank you for putting up with me when I was angry at you. Thank you for not leaving me alone so you could go around and enjoy your life with another man. Thank you for putting your love life on hold just so I wouldn’t feel neglected. Mom, thank you for everything! Because of you, I am the person I am today.

I know that you gave your best to raise a happy child and I must say that you managed to do that. Thank you for always sticking next to me, for spending sleepless nights while I was sick, taking care of me. Thank you for talking to me about my darkest secrets and the things that hurt me.

Thank you for comforting me when I got my heart broken for the first time. Thank you for taking care of me like I was the apple of your eye. And most of all, thank you for loving me unconditionally.

Thank you for your silence because it taught me to actually think about the things I did. Thank you for understanding me even on those days when I thought that you didn’t.

You always knew the way to my heart. You always knew how to give me advice without hurting me or making me look incapable. Thank you for treating me with enormous respect and love and most of all, thank you for that never changing.

Like any mother, you always looked at me like someone who needed your protection. But this time I want you to get some rest. Mom, I know that you are getting old now, so please let me protect you. Let me be the wall you can lean on every time you feel like you are going to fall down. Let me be your rock Mom, like you were mine all this time.

Let me take care of you like you took care of me when I was a child. Let me show you that you also have someone you can rely on when times get rough. Let me spend some time with you to thank you properly for molding me into the person I am today. Let me finally thank you for making me this perfect, Mom!

Love,

Your daughter
