We all long for the day when we can look in the mirror and like what we see. And I don’t mean the kind of love where we have to convince ourself that it’s there and that we are doing okay.

I’m talking about genuinely feeling happy and content when we look at ourself in the mirror.

Most of us are so accustomed to being hard on ourself that feeling good in our own skin seems like a distant dream. But everything you need to feel happy is something you already have.

You don’t need material stuff, wealth or other people. You have to be happy with yourself in order to be happy with someone else.

When you realize your worth, you will stop caring about these things:

1. Being perfect

It sounds like a cliché but we are all perfect and unique in our own way! People who know their worth just don’t care about always being perfect.

They know it is important to have goals and dreams in life and to always work toward achieving them because that is precisely what gives our life meaning and fulfillment. It’s what makes every day count.

They know how to see things from a more positive and different perspective and are not bothered with every little thing being flawless. It’s the small things and moments that make life worth living.

2. Always getting what you want

If you want to be happy, first you have to be grateful for what you have. There are a lot of things in life that we think will make us happy and we want them desperately but when we finally do have them, we’re still not happy!

What’s the deal with that? It’s the fact that happiness is not in other things or people, it’s within us. And people who are aware of this lead a happier life and are more relaxed and unbothered in general.

These people are aware that we can’t always get what we want but it doesn’t even matter, because most of the time, we will realize that it’s not the key to happiness.

We need to be thankful for every day and every moment we have, because we never know when it’s going to be our last. Those who appreciate the little things in life will be happier and will not need other people to make them feel worthy.

3. Comparing yourself to others

The grass is always greener on the other side. Or is it really? As perfect as someone’s life might seem on the outside, you can never know how somebody feels in their own skin.

And those who are at peace with themselves and know their worth know better than to compare themselves to anyone. Everyone has their own journey in life and they are the only one who knows how things truly are for them.

So it’s important to worry about ourself and let others be. The sooner you realize this, the better your life will become.

4. Needing someone to make you happy

It’s amazing to have someone by your side and when it’s real, love is a truly beautiful thing. Nevertheless, if you still haven’t found your soulmate, who’s to say you cannot be happy and content with yourself?

Don’t think that you need a man to feel fulfilled and satisfied with yourself. If you can’t love yourself, you won’t be able to love someone else.

Only those who know their worth appreciate themselves enough to not settle for just anyone but rather wait for the right person to come along.

5. What others think of you

It’s totally normal that you want to feel beautiful and attractive. But it’s also important to know that these are not the things that make us who we are.

Physical appearance doesn’t define you as a person and those who know that are much happier with themselves.

If there is someone in your life who can’t see past your appearance, that is their problem, and not something you should be concerned about, ever.

As long as you take care of yourself and do well by others, you have nothing to worry about. People will always talk.

That says more about them than it does about you. So keep your head high and just do you.
