Every man is aware of the fact that makeup is an essential part of (almost) every woman’s daily routine. Makeup is one of the easiest ways to boost your mood and feel good about yourself.
It’s also one of the most effective ways to attract men (or make them run away from you). Men don’t perceive makeup the same way as women and there are some things about it that they find extremely appalling!
DISCLAIMER: I’m completely aware of the fact that most women actually don’t care about what guys think about makeup, but I think it would be fair to hear their opinion as well.
Here are the top things about makeup guys can’t stand:
1. Men are LITERALLY scared of bright lipsticks.
When a man sees a woman wearing bright lipstick, he can’t help but think the following:
“I’m wondering what my lips will look like after I kiss her.”
“I can’t focus on anything else on her except her lipstick.”
“Man, my eyes hurt!”
According to men, wearing bright lipstick means overdoing it and ruining the chance of accentuating your natural beauty.
2. Fake eyelashes look frightening to them.
While many women think that long and lavish eyelashes (read: fake eyelashes) will grab the attention of the most prospective suitors and the hottest men out there, the truth is quite different.
Fake eyelashes look frightening to men. Why? Because they don’t look natural.
A man named Sean expressed his concern about this for Cosmopolitan. The reason he doesn’t like fake eyelashes is because “they’re just too long and make them [women] look like giraffes.” Oops, that hurt!
(I’m sure many other men support his opinion which is something you shouldn’t take for granted.)
3. Guys can’t stand eyebrows that look painted on.
Similarly to bright lipsticks, eyebrows that look painted on look artificial and over the top. Apart from looking not-so-inviting, men are also worried that your brows will rub off.
As a matter of fact, they simply can’t understand a woman’s tendency to do anything regarding her eyebrows, let alone paint them on.
4. Nike eyebrows are their biggest nightmare.
If you ask men, one of the worst popular trends ever is Nike eyebrows. At first, Nike eyebrows didn’t look exactly the same as the logo but had some similarities. Nowadays, there are eyebrows made to look EXACTLY like the Nike logo.

5. Contouring trend is just TOO MUCH for them.
Contouring your face has become extremely popular these days primarily “thanks” to the Kardashians. Do you really want to know what men think about this trend?
To them, contouring is like painting a picture and the biggest problem is that it requires TOO MUCH paint (makeup).
According to a study conducted by researchers at Bangor University and Aberdeen University and published in the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, guys aren’t fans of that much makeup on a woman’s face.
As reported by the Time magazine, “Men and women both preferred the images of the models wearing 40% less makeup than they initially put on.”
6. They also aren’t fond of glitter in your eye makeup.
Men: Glitter in your eye makeup? Double WHY?
Here’s the thing with men. They simply can’t understand a woman’s need to put glitter or other material on her face that doesn’t have any other purpose except for looking silly (to them).
Additionally, there’s this saying derived from a 16th-century line by William Shakespeare: “All that glitters is not gold.”
Translation: Not everything that looks precious or true turns out to be so.
Makeup translation by men: Glitter in your eye makeup won’t make you prettier.
7. Just like cats are afraid of water, men are afraid of STICKY lip gloss.
Kissing lips that look sticky isn’t something men enjoy. Actually, they are afraid of sticky lip gloss so much that they’ll even refuse to make the first move regardless of how much they like the girl.
Maybe I overexaggerated it a bit, but that’s just how it is. Just imagine a cat being afraid of water and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
8. Two words: Cakey foundation.
Cakey foundation happens for three reasons:
• Not layering your makeup in the correct order.
• Dry skin problems.
• Not using the right skin care products.
Needless to say that cakey foundation is one of the top 10 things about makeup guys can’t stand because it makes you look older, and like you don’t take good care of yourself.
9. Men simply don’t understand the point of nude lipsticks.
Men: What’s the point of applying something that blends with your face?
Every man would die to understand why so many women apply nude lipsticks.
One man expressed his concern and annoyance regarding this to the beauty site Byrdie in the following words: “I don’t get lipstick that makes the lips the same color as women’s faces.”
I’m sure other men sympathize with him as well.
10. Dark eye makeup is off-putting to them.
Many women enjoy the charms of a smokey eye look, but are you ready to hear what men think about it?
Well, Bustle reported that “66 percent don’t find a date more attractive if she’s wearing dark eye makeup.” Evidently, guys think that dark eye makeup is a little bit too much and off-putting on a woman’s face.
