And even though it’s not always easy not having my best friend close by as often as I used to, I feel fortunate to have somebody I can miss this much.

All'inizio temevo che la distanza avrebbe rovinato la nostra amicizia. Sono felice che l'abbia solo rafforzata.

Ora capisco che la distanza era solo un test per vedere se la nostra amicizia era vera. Sono felice che entrambi abbiamo superato il test a pieni voti.

Even though we are physically apart, I know that we always carry some parts of each other with us wherever we may go. We carry all the memories. We carry all the nights we spent crying on each other’s shoulders for reasons we mostly don’t remember anymore. We carry the crazy, sleepless nights we loved wasting together.

A volte passiamo anche settimane senza parlare e, anche se mi mancano le nostre conversazioni di tre ore, non mi preoccupo mai che qualcosa non vada bene.

I know that’s just down to our tight schedules, time difference or daily routines that don’t leave us with much time for anything else.

Ci sono alcune cose che devo dire di amare di questa nostra amicizia a distanza:

Mi piace il fatto che sembri sempre sapere quando è il momento giusto per chiamare. It’s like you feel that I need you and seeing a call from you instantly makes it better.

So che posso rilassarmi con te, che sei l'unico che può capire. Sai che ci sono anch'io per te, sempre.

Mi piace che abbiamo formato il nostro piccolo universo prima che tu partissi. Mi piace che ci siano cose che hanno un significato solo per noi due. Piccole cose stupide, come il fatto che mi tagghi in meme in cui nessuno dei miei amici mi taggherebbe mai. Abbiamo le nostre battute interne anche quando siamo lontani chilometri.

Amo le vacanze che trascorriamo insieme, anche se sono rare. Credo che ora entrambi li apprezziamo di più.

Sfruttiamo al meglio il poco tempo che abbiamo a disposizione. Ora facciamo in modo che ogni secondo sia importante.

I love that you are still ‘my person’ and after all the time of not speaking or not seeing each other, it feels like we were never apart. We just pick up where we left off.

I love that you can hear in my voice the things I don’t find so easy to say.

Adoro il fatto che tu sia l'unico in grado di leggere tra le righe e di capire cosa intendo veramente quando dico qualcosa, anche quando non sono sicuro di me stesso.

Mi piace che possiamo essere dolorosamente onesti l'uno con l'altro. The truth is never easy to hear but it’s important to have a friend who doesn’t do the easy thing but instead does the right thing.

Adoro la luna piena. Abbiamo tanti ricordi legati alle notti di luna piena.

Ogni volta che la vedo, ricordo quelle notti e rido con tutto il cuore. So che tu sei da qualche parte nel tuo lato del mondo a guardare la stessa luna e a ricordare proprio come me.

I love that we both learned that friendship isn’t how much we see each other or how much we talk, but it’s about the fact that we are there for each other no matter what.

It’s not about all the time spent with that person and in the same place. It’s about the right person and finding time for them.

Mi piace che ci siamo l'uno per l'altro. Che siamo lì per ascoltare e sostenere quando una di noi è nel suo momento peggiore.

There’s no envy when one of us has it good and it’s something truly priceless when a friend shares in your happiness.

Mi piace il fatto che mi chiamerai quando leggerai questo articolo e mi dirai che sono un'idiota. You’ll tell me I am a bitch for making you cry. I know that’s just your way of saying ‘I love you’.

But, I don’t care; I had to write it. You deserve to know how lucky I feel for having you in my life.

Mi piace appartenere ai fortunati, a coloro che hanno trovato un'amica per la vita, su cui poter contare, qualunque cosa accada. Non importa quanti chilometri ci separino, tu sei sempre qui nel mio cuore, accanto a me.
