Sometimes in life, we all get to a point where we start questioning our life and where we are. Are you at a place where you wanted to be when you pictured your life back when you were 15?

Did you achieve what you set out to do all those years ago? Are you happily married or in a solid, long-term relationship and does it even matter? And most importantly, are you happy?

Those are all things that appear in our mind at one point or another. Life will sometimes catch you by surprise. Things will just happen and you’ll feel like you’re in a movie where you have zero control over your character.

Shit will happen, hearts will get broken, relationships will be falling apart and you’ll feel as if you’re at a crossroads where you are required to make a smart choice. One that will determine how the rest of your movie plays out and you’ll have no idea which choice to make.

See, there is no control over life. It just goes, whether you like it or not, and whatever is meant to happen to you will happen. You can worry and panic all you want but by doing that, you aren’t really doing anything but plaguing your mind with negative thoughts that could be turned into something so much more important and useful to you.

So what if you’re not married with two kids and living in a huge house by now? So what if you aren’t where you hoped you would be at this age? Do you really think life works that way?

Let me tell you a little secret. Nobody has it all figured out. And if you have people in your life who seemingly have it all and whose happiness seems immeasurable, look again. Do you honestly think things are as peachy as they seem on the outside? They almost never are!

People struggle all the time! There is no rulebook on how to master the art of living! There are only people who understand that the only thing you can do is go with the flow of life, make good choices and hope life treats you kindly.

Sometimes, being alone doesn’t equal being lonely! You can be by yourself and be perfectly satisfied with your life. All it means is that you have enough self-respect that you won’t settle for just anyone to spend your life with in order to fulfill society’s norms.

It means you are perfectly capable of being alone but happy! Because let me tell you something; happiness does not equal partnership! Happiness is something that comes from within.

It means coming home from a long day at work to your beautiful, comfy home, your two adorable pooches wagging their tails at you, jumping from joy you’re home, you feeling pure happiness as you see their faces, and moving this party of three to the living room, squishing their faces and feeling blessed to have this life you’re living.

It means seeing all those couples as you’re on your way to work and instead of feeling instant jealousy for not having a partner yourself, realizing that half of those couples are probably on the verge of a break-up and knowing you’d rather be alone but happy than having to pretend to feel what isn’t there.

Being alone but happy means knowing your worth and refusing to diminish it for temporary pleasure.

It doesn’t make you a loser. It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. Don’t let uneducated people affect your judgment or your way of life. Don’t let those who don’t know you dictate how your life should go.

Live your life. Be happy. Happiness means a variety of things to a variety of people. One person’s idea of a happy life can be your personal nightmare. So stop comparing yourself with anyone and don’t measure your level of happiness with someone else’s.

People work with what they’ve got. Not everyone gets to live their ideal life but what matters is that you push through. You find something worth living for and you keep it in your mind as your motivation to keep pushing and keep on living.

You are probably doing so much better than what you’re telling yourself. People are their own worst critics. Be gentle on yourself. If you’re currently struggling with where you are, it doesn’t mean it won’t get better!

By this time next year, all your dreams could come true. Keep that in mind and don’t judge yourself if you’re alone. I hope by now you realize that it doesn’t mean you can’t be happy. All it means is that good things will come when you don’t put pressure on yourself.

When dark days appear on your horizon, instead of letting it get to you and put you down… remind yourself that sometimes being alone is necessary to reach your own personal potential.
