The silent treatment is deliberately ignoring your partner because you are not on the same page regarding something.
It can be some mini fight but it can be something serious like cheating or taking them for granted. But the bottom line is that it is not nice at all and it can even be called some sort of emotional abuse.
Because if your partner doesn’t want to talk to you and make things right, it means they feel you are not worthy of their efforts. They want you to hurt as much as you can and they will do everything to see you like that.
And in that situation, there are certain things you can do to respond to the silent treatment your partner is giving you.
1. Find the root of the problem
If you find the root of the problem maybe you can prevent the silent treatment next time. If you know what behavior makes your partner mad, you will know how to communicate with him next time.
I am not saying that you will give up on your dreams just because it makes your man sad but if you feel that you made a mistake, you can correct it. Since it takes two to tango, your partner will have to make an effort as well.
2. Wear your heart on your sleeve
People keep their emotions deep down nowadays but that is the worst thing you can do.
If you want to prevent the silent treatment, you need to talk to your partner. Don’t be the one who will run after him if he hurts you but when things calm down, sit and talk to him openly.
Tell him how you feel and make him do the same. That is a great way to create a deeper bond between the two of you and bring your relationship to a whole new level.
3. Make a compromise
Relationships are hard work but it is up to you to see if your partner is really worth it. If you fight about little things, try to talk to him and make a compromise. I bet both of you want to make things work so there is no need for the silent treatment.
Otherwise, both of you will feel bad and you won’t solve anything. Instead of ignoring each other, open up and talk about all those things that make you feel bad. If you love each other, you will understand each other as well.
4. Make time for the both of you to cool off
If you were a victim of the silent treatment, don’t jump into a discussion with your partner right away but rather give him time to cool off. You will also need some time to think about what happened and if you can get over it.
If you discuss the problem right away, you will just yell at each other because of your hurt emotions and you won’t solve anything. But if you take some time to calm down, maybe you can save your relationship.
The question is if your partner wants it too and if he is willing to change after all.
5. Communicate in a polite way
There are different types of communication and if you talk to your partner like you are still mad at him, you won’t solve anything. If you were hurt so much, you can separate but at least do it with dignity.
Don’t fight and don’t swear because you will only make things worse in that way.
Good communication is key to a successful relationship so that is what you need to strive for. And if you don’t get a positive answer from your partner, at least you will know it wasn’t your fault.
6. Don’t do things you are not comfortable with
There are things some partners will want but if you are not okay with it, don’t accept it. Don’t let your guy blackmail you just because you love him. That is not an act of love but an act of cowardice.
So, never say that you are sorry if you think you weren’t guilty of the fight and always keep your dignity. Remember that couples need to make an effort and if you are the only one doing it, then it really doesn’t make sense.
7. Make some rules that will work for both of you
If you really love your partner and if you go over all those problems you two have, then make some rules that will work for the both of you.
I am not saying that you should bow down in front of him but if he is ready to make things work, then give him a chance.
If things don’t work out in the end, at least you will know that it wasn’t because of you. If it can be saved then it is great and if not, I guess it wasn’t meant for you to be together. Please bear in mind that when one door gets closed, other ones get opened!
