Giving her a flower or kissing her forehead are beautiful romantic gestures, but giving your girlfriend a cute nickname is simply priceless!
Wondering how I know? Because I’m a girl myself, and I have plenty of female friends who can confirm my hypothesis.
Here’s the thing, guys: You probably think that we expect you to move mountains in order to make us feel special, but this is not true at all.
I personally am happy if a guy manages to remember my birthday (yup), if he gives me a flower a few times, and kisses me like he really means it.
The truth is that we girls aren’t as complicated as you might think and you don’t need to go out of your way to brighten our day. (I love this rhyme)!
If you want to melt your girlfriend’s heart, all you need to do is be innovative and creative! Sounds like something you could do? Just messing with you.
I’m sure every boyfriend has this imaginative and creative side in them, but it just needs to awaken. Well, today is that day.
Today, you’ll learn how to make your girlfriend feel truly special by giving her a unique and cute nickname that resembles her personality.
But, before we dive into it, allow me to first explain to you the importance of nicknames in a relationship.
Nicknames are every relationship’s special milestone!
As a person who has been in a relationship without nicknames and in one with nicknames, I can tell you one thing: A relationship without nicknames is like watching a movie without sound.
Here’s how I see it. When you just meet someone, you don’t have that special connection with them yet because it takes time to establish it.
You call the person you’re dating by their original name and vice versa.
But, when you enter a relationship, things change. She becomes yours and you become hers. There is no longer I or You, but WE. You become their special person and vice versa.
Suddenly, you have a long list of inside jokes, you’re partners in crime, you make each other’s day in the most awkward and special ways, and you become each other’s bae (before anyone else).
They are the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning and the last thing you think of when you go to sleep. When you’re not together, texting with them is your favorite hobby.
All these things are mini milestones of every relationship and they deserve to be celebrated. And, is there a better way to celebrate it than by giving each other a unique and special nickname?
I bet there isn’t! When you reach all those milestones, you can say without hesitation that they are your person and you are theirs.
When you reach all those milestones, calling your girlfriend Boo bear or Sweetie pie finally makes sense and it feels just right.
Nicknames help you express your intimate feelings for your girlfriend.
When you think of your girlfriend, what are the things that first come to your mind? Cuddling, beautiful, unique, inspiring?
Now, imagine that you told your girlfriend how unique she is ten times per day. It would look like this: You are so unique. OMG, I love that you’re so unique. Will you stop being so hilarious? You’re killing me, woman.
I know. This is a weird example for sure, but here’s what I’m trying to demonstrate to you: Imagine that there is one word with which you could tell your girlfriend that she’s unique, cute, beautiful, etc. without repeating yourself over and over again.
Well, that one special word is called a nickname! Nicknames help you express your intimate feelings for your girlfriend, and they also help you strengthen your relationship.
Calling your girlfriend by a unique and special nickname will melt her heart every time she hears it. It will remind her of your ultimate love and affection for her.
It will make her feel beautiful, cared for, special, and YOURS.
Here are some adorably cute nicknames for a girlfriend that will surely melt her heart:
- My sunshine
- Cutie pie
- My lady
- Angel
- Honey bunny
- Snuggle puff
- Tigress
- Little monkey
- Lovebird
- Sugarlips
Apart from using these nicknames, you can also come up with your own. My last boyfriend called me Babu, and in return, I called him Buba.
I have no idea why he started calling me that, but it still made me feel special because I haven’t heard any other guy calling their girlfriend by that name.
Here are some ideas. Instead of calling her Lovebird, you can call her Birdie.
Instead of calling her Honey bunny, you can change it into Sunny bunny, which means that she’s like your personal Sun (always brightens your day), and she’s also your Bunny that you enjoy cuddling with.
As you can see, there are so many possible variations of nicknames, and that’s what makes them priceless and truly special.
Remember these three golden rules for giving nicknames to your girlfriend:
1. Know when the right time is to start using nicknames.
Imagine that you’ve been on a couple of dates so far and things are progressing (but you’re still not officially in a relationship) and you start calling her by some cute nickname that is specifically reserved for those who are in a relationship.
Don’t do that. Don’t give her nicknames too early and neither too late. The best time to give her a cute nickname is when you establish a deep emotional connection.
Just don’t overthink it. Your gut will tell you when the right time is to start using nicknames, so make sure to listen to it.
2. A nickname has to match her personality.
This is the most important rule of all. Giving your girlfriend a nickname that doesn’t agree with her personality would be completely pointless, right?
The right nickname for her should be the one that accentuates her personality, habits, and unique mindset.
If your girlfriend LOVES long cuddling sessions with you and vice versa, giving her the Snuggle puff nickname would sound just right.
If your girlfriend is assertive (and she’s also wild in bed), then calling her Tigress will put a smile on her face.
Whichever one you choose, always ask yourself the following questions:
- Does it match her personality?
- How will she feel when you call her by that nickname?
- Is the nickname original or generic?
My humble advice to you is to avoid generic nicknames like Beautiful or similar. Calling your girl beautiful is nice, but it doesn’t have that special something which is supposed to make her feel special.
There are plenty of cute nicknames for your girlfriend out there, and you should be able to find the one that matches her personality.
Here’s another bit of great advice. If you’re having trouble finding the right nickname for her, you can make a list of the things that describe her personality.
Once you write the list, compare those words and make a nickname that encompasses them all (or a few of them).
As a matter of fact, if you feel like your girlfriend deserves a few nicknames and not just one, then feel free to come up with a few.
As long as they’re unique, creative, and they match her personality, you cannot go wrong with them.
3. Don’t call other girls with her nickname.
This is a huge no-no. Imagine that you call both your girlfriend and your female best friend by the same nickname.
If I was your girlfriend, I would certainly tell you something like this: What the hell? Am I not special enough for you so you don’t bother coming up with an original nickname that will be only mine?
I guess you understand what I’m trying to say. By calling other girls with her nickname, you’re basically telling her that she’s not special at all or that other girls are equally as special as her.
Trust me, no girl will tolerate that. Also, no guy will tolerate that. It’s insulting, lame, and not funny.
To avoid such complicated situations, make sure that your girlfriend is the only one you call by that one (or a few) nickname(s).
Nicknames are special titles we give to those who are special to us.
We don’t give nicknames to random people on the street. We give them to those we care about and who add value to our life.
This means that we like them so much that we had to invent a new word that would describe their unique personality. That’s the real beauty of nicknames. It’s like a secret that only the two of you know.
