We all do it. We suppress our emotions when we have to deal with a break-up, something bad that someone said to us or when we’re simply afraid to show our true nature.
Whatever the reason may be, suppressing your emotions may lead to serious consequences for your overall health and it may interfere with your ability to express yourself. Suppressing means subconsciously creating multiple personalities for each occasion and ignoring your true feelings and desires.
If you’re constantly neglecting your body’s wishes to express itself, it will eventually become numb. You should stop concealing your true feelings because if you don’t, they will get stuck in your body and you won’t be able to relax until you digest them or get rid of them.
In order to prevent this from happening, you should listen to your mind and body and act accordingly.
1. Don’t pretend you’re over someone when you’re not.
Yell. Scream. Cry till the end of time if you need to. But don’t pretend that you’re good when in reality you’re not.
In order to get over someone, you have to accept the situation and understand why it happened. Once you understand it, it will be easier to get over it. Your mind will be focused on the present and not on past events full of pain and sorrow.
Don’t be afraid to show your true self because there’s nothing wrong with being in pain. You shouldn’t be ashamed of your feelings.
You should embrace them and proudly show them to everyone. Fooling others doesn’t mean you can fool yourself.
You can reassure others that you’re over someone but you’ll hardly believe it yourself because you’re the only person who knows the real truth.
2. Don’t put on a brave face whenever you need to deal with something intimidating.
Whether it is a job interview or a date with someone you really like, there’s no need to hide your anxiety or the excitement that comes with it. Don’t pretend like it’s not a big deal because it is.
If your mind acts like it is a big deal, then it really is. Don’t be afraid to show your vulnerable side from time to time because you’re only human.
Know that you don’t have to show off your boldness all the time. It’s totally okay to be anxious and nervous before a big event in your life.
That’s the beauty of life. So, don’t bother putting on a brave face only to show others how strong you are.
On the contrary, real strength is in expressing your true feelings.
3. Don’t act indifferent when you finally get what you’ve waited for.
Don’t play it cool when he finally texts you. God knows how long you’ve waited for that to happen, so don’t pretend like it’s not a big deal.
Yes, it is!
He finally texted/called you and you should be really happy about it. Don’t be ashamed of your feelings toward him because admiring someone is a beautiful thing.
You owe it to yourself. When you finally get what you’ve waited so long for, you should be proud of yourself for being patient. You should scream with happiness because you deserve it.
Playing it cool will only kill the joy in life and you know it. So, stay true to yourself.
4. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself when someone disrespects you.
If someone disrespects you, don’t pretend you’re not furious about it. There are many decent ways to tell that person to go fuck themselves.
Don’t pretend you didn’t hear it because if you do, they will take you for granted and think that they can do whatever they want. Don’t be silent.
It is better to tell them immediately if they’ve treated you badly one way or another than to contemplate it for the next two months. That way you are letting it destroy you.
Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself because no one else will. You’re the maker of your own happiness.
5. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you really want.
If they offer you a casual relationship and you’re looking for commitment, then say it! Do not pretend that you’re okay with being casual or with being just friends when you want him so badly for yourself.
If you want him to stop manipulating you, then say it!
If you want him to text you more frequently, then say it!
If you think you deserve better, fight for it!
Don’t stand for less just because you’re afraid to ask for what you really want. Show your true nature.
Express yourself.
Don’t be afraid to show them who you really are because they should love you for who you are, and not for who they want you to be.
