Law Of Assumption: Consciousness Is The Only Reality

Law Of Assumption: Consciousness Is The Only Reality

“Read these words carefully. They are not my words; they are the inspired words of men who discovered that consciousness is the only reality. If I am hurt, I am self-hurt. If there is darkness in my world, I created the darkness and the gloom and the depression. If there is light and joy, I created the light and the joy.” – Neville Goddard

The law of assumption states that whatever you assume to be true already is and will eventually manifest. Looking at the quote above with this in mind, it’s clear that this applies to both the good and the bad.

So how to use the power of your imagination to fulfill your heart’s desires, improve your well-being and live the life of your dreams?

What Is The Law Of Assumption?

“Determined imagination, thinking from the end is the beginning of all miracles.” – Neville Goddard

The law of assumption states that what you assume as true becomes your reality. Your own consciousness shapes the physical world around you.

If you’re skeptical about this way of thinking, you should know that you’ve been using the law of assumption your whole life. What we assume becomes real, but we’re not always aware that this is what we’re doing.

People assume things about themselves, about others and about the world in their subconscious minds. This creates our experiences and our reality. Think of a time when something you believed in affected your reality. There’s no doubt that there’s an example of this in everyone’s life.

For instance, if you ever went into a job interview thinking deep down that you didn’t stand a chance of getting it, you failed for sure. If you went in truly believing that this job was yours already, it was. This is how your external reality was influenced by your assumptions.

You don’t have to intentionally sit down and come up with what it is you want to create, but you can. This is the best part of the law of assumption – once you know how it works, you can reshape your reality into anything you want it to be.

How Does The Law Of Assumption Work?

How is it possible that your imagination shapes your reality? If you believe that nothing exists outside of your consciousness, then it follows that you can consciously create whatever you want.

To do so, two things are necessary: assuming that what you want is already real and assuming the feelings of your fulfilled desire until you manifest it.

Universal law

“You can’t see imagination; you see the fruits of imagination.” – Neville Goddard

The law of assumption is a universal law and it must be used. You use it either consciously or unconsciously.

When you use it consciously, you’re using the feelings of fulfilled desire to direct your life. When you use it unconsciously, you’re reacting to the outside world and letting negative assumptions run your life.

The law of assumption is always functioning and it’s operated by you. Your imagination is always creating the world around you. Knowing about this makes it possible to use it consciously to shape your reality.

Don’t misunderstand the term ‘assumption’ as something uncertain. Perhaps it’s easier to understand the basic idea behind the law of assumption if you consider the definition of this word: something accepted as true with no proof necessary.

This means that you must believe that what you want is true and not question it. This faith is the most important requirement for manifesting using the law of assumption.

The power of feelings

“A change of feeling is a change of destiny.” – Neville Goddard

If there were no limits and constraints to what you could have, what would you create? Be brutally honest about your greatest desire.

Don’t modify your desire to make it fit anyone else’s opinions and expectations or your own beliefs on what you deserve and what you can get. Imagine that it’s possible and you have it.

How does having exactly what you wanted feel like? Try to experience this feeling of your wish having come true as much as you can. Immerse yourself and become the person who has had their desire fulfilled.

Once you know how having what you want feels, how do you act? What are you like? How do you act? What does your life look like?

Imagine telling others about it and keep up these conversations until they feel natural. When the feeling of your fulfilled desire becomes effortless, it takes on the tones of reality. This is what you’re looking for.

Once the feeling of your desire fulfilled is real, focus on this feeling as often as you can. Now the law of assumption can work.

How To Manifest Using The Law Of Assumption

“When man solves the mystery of imagining, he will have discovered the secret of causation, and that is: imagining creates reality. Therefore, the man who is aware of what he is imagining knows what he is creating; realizes more and more that the drama of life is imaginal – not physical. ” – Neville Goddard

Manifesting using the law of assumption is based on imagining your desire and feeling without a doubt that it’s true, then imagining an event in which you’ll encounter after your wish is fulfilled.

This is the basic outline of how it’s done: for more details, take a look at the law of assumption examples and techniques.

1. Know what it is you want

What is it that you desire today and will still desire tomorrow? You can only start manifesting when you know exactly what you want and admit it to yourself.

• Think big. What you imagine should be the end goal, your ultimate desire in some area of your life, not a step towards it.

• Don’t focus on something that’s just a part of what you want or a method to achieve it. For example, focus on being in a happy relationship instead of going on a date with someone new if that’s your ultimate goal.

Be honest with yourself. Your assumptions until now don’t matter. Nothing is impossible, so only focus on positive thoughts. Don’t conform to the expectations of others.

2. Construct an event in your mind

Imagine a scene that would happen after the realization of your desire. It should be something you participate in, not something you look at from the outside.

Your goal is to assume that the reality you desire is already true and that you’re living in it. Make it short and focused, and include as many sensory details as you can.

For example, imagine getting a kiss hello from your significant other when they come home from work. This action indicates that your wish of living together with someone who’s not in your life yet or your specific person has come true.

If your end goal is being happily married to your soulmate, imagine a short action like this one that makes it clear in your mind that it’s a part of your wish being fulfilled. You’re looking for something that invokes the feeling of your wish having come true.

3. Experience the feeling of fulfillment

Next, be still and experience in your imagination how it feels when your desire is reality and you’re living the life you want.

Relax and imagine you’re performing the action you would perform in reality if your goal has been achieved.

Goddard recommends immobilizing your physical body and entering a state akin to sleep. This is a meditative state between consciousness and unconsciousness. It’s the drowsy feeling you experience right before you fall asleep, like you could wake up or drift away.

Mentally feel that you’re doing the action you imagined – in our example, kissing your partner hello. Visualizing helps you focus on the end goal – your desire being fulfilled – so imagine just this one action and repeat. Then imagine it again, and again until it starts to feel real.

4. Assume that what you wish for is real

Keep going until you fall asleep or it starts to feel like reality. Repeat this one action in your imagination until it starts to feel real and you forget that you’re imagining it.

Be persistent – the feeling that it’s real will come if you keep at it long enough. If you give up too soon, it won’t.

Ignore all evidence to the contrary. These ‘facts’ are only remnants of your past assumptions and will soon be gone. You must assume you already have what you want and your reality will follow.

Experience a new state of mind: inner conversations that support your desire and change your habitual way of thinking. Replace these negative thoughts with a positive mindset.

5. Be patient

It’s vital you don’t give up too soon. Your internal state is reflected in the outside world and you’ve been unconsciously letting negative assumptions shape it. Using positive thinking and positive affirmations, you can change this.

However, it takes a while to truly start believing that everything you want has already happened. Until you do, keep trying and working on manifesting your desire. Be persistent and don’t give up on your new assumptions, and the world will adjust to fit them.

Where Does The Law Of Assumption Come From?

The law of assumption was based on the teachings of Neville Goddard.

Neville Lancelot Goddard was born in 1905 and died in 1972. As a young man, he traveled to the United States to study drama and became a dancer.

While touring with his dance company, he developed an interest in metaphysics and decided to give up his dancing career and devote himself to spiritual matters.

Goddard learned about the power of imagination from his mentor Abdullah, who taught him about the Kabbalah and the hidden meanings in the Scripture.

Goddard became a lecturer on the Law of assumption during the 1950s and ‘60s and wrote several books, including Feeling Is the Secret, The Power of Awareness, Your Faith Is Your Fortune, and others.

All of Goddard’s works are in the public domain and available for free. This includes his books and transcripts of his lectures.

What Is The Difference Between Law Of Attraction And Law Of Assumption?

“It is not what you want that you attract; you attract what you believe to be true.” – Neville Goddard

Manifesting is the act of wishing something into existence. It isn’t about forcing the Universe to give you something or convincing yourself that something is true.

You’re already manifesting your life every day, so when you realize that you’re the one who decides what it’s like, you can start changing it in the way you want.

The law of attraction is one of the best-known approaches to manifesting, but how does it differ from the law of assumption?

What is the law of attraction?

The law of attraction is based on the principle of “like attracts like.” It states that positive thoughts bring positive experiences into your life and help change your limiting beliefs and other negative thinking.

You attract what you want with vibrational energy. Using positive thoughts and feelings, you raise it to the level of what you want to attract. This inspires you to take action and send out what you want to get back.

What is the law of assumption?

The law of assumption helps you manifest what you want by having a state of mind and feeling like it’s already a reality. Nothing exists beyond your consciousness, so if you change your assumptions, they will become reality.

While the law of attraction is all about consciously inviting good things and doing what it takes to get them, the law of assumption works under the premise that your desires are already true and you don’t have to take any particular action to make it happen.

What Does ‘Everyone Is You Pushed Out’ Mean?

“The whole vast world is yourself pushed out. All that you behold, though it appears without it, is within in your own wonderful human imagination of which this world of mortality is but a shadow.” – Neville Goddard

‘Everyone is you pushed out’ is an idea that became controversial because it’s not well-understood. The easiest and most useful way of looking at this is that it means that everyone is responding to you and your assumptions.

For example, if you’re in a bad mood, you’ll run into a lot of people who seem to want to antagonize you. If you assume that your boss doesn’t like you, they’ll look down on you and give you difficult tasks to do.

Whatever you assume, other people and the world show it to you. Your beliefs are reflected in others, and you experience what you believe you are. Your assumptions influence everyone and everything in your reality. People will act in the way you assume they’ll act.

Things you believe about yourself and the world create your reality – they affect everything around you. Everyone has a lot of assumptions, much more than we’re aware, and they influence everything around us. People are what you assume in your subconscious mind.

What Is ‘Self Concept’?

“Your opinion of yourself is your most important viewpoint. You are infinitely greater than you think you are.” – Neville Goddard

Your self concept is the assumptions you have about yourself – the identity that you’ve assumed. It’s who you agreed to be to fulfill the expectations of others. This is how you think of yourself and believe to be like.

You accepted that you’re a certain kind of person and your mind keeps giving you evidence to prove it. If you believe that you’re lazy, for example, you’ll keep finding proof that supports it.

In other words, your self concept is what you agreed to be, so you’re manifesting it. To change your self concept, you must move on from these assumptions. If you don’t agree with them, they can’t exist.

A low self concept is about insecurity and self-imposed limitations. A high self concept is about being self-assured and believing that there are no limitations.

Self concept is very important because it not only determines how you see yourself, but how you see the world. If you believe you’re unlikable, you’ll believe that others don’t like you. If you believe you’re accomplished, you’ll see that others respect you.

How to achieve high self concept?

How to stop believing in other people’s judgment, in limitations, in negative self-talk? Your life reflects your beliefs, so stop being unlovable, ugly, clumsy or whatever other damaging assumptions you might hold by replacing your old assumptions with new ones.

You can assume that you are whatever you want to be. Other people’s opinions don’t matter. Your true self will appear when you accept it and assume it’s real.

Use affirmations that support this new concept to state who you are, believe it and it will become reality. All you have to do is start assuming the opposite of every bad thing you believe in yourself and be consistent.

For example, if you assume that you’re unattractive, start assuming that you’re attractive. Use affirmations and thoughts that support this. Be persistent and patient and reality will soon follow.

What Does It Mean To Affirm The Law Of Assumption?

Affirming the law of assumption means using affirmations to help you get into a positive state of mind and change your assumptions into ones that will bring you what you desire.

The law of assumption states that what you assume to be true becomes reality. But if what you assume to be true is negative and painful, how can you change it? You can decide that those assumptions are no good, but deep down, still hold those beliefs.

Affirmations are the most powerful tool at your disposal when you want to change your way of thinking. Consistent thoughts become beliefs and beliefs become reality. This is why affirmations are useful: they serve as repeated positive thoughts.

How to affirm the law of assumption

At first, affirmations can seem silly or meaningless. But if you make a choice to change your life for the better and give it your best to actually start believing in them, you’ll succeed. Make an effort and use affirmations to remind yourself of what it is that you want.

For example, if you assume that you’ll never find true love, you won’t. You’d like to, but you believe that for one reason or another, it will never happen to you.

This is an example of a negative assumption – you have a desire, but you believe it’s impossible. Because you assume that you can’t find love, you’re manifesting it. Instead, you need to own your desire without fear and start believing that it’s true.

To change your thinking, use affirmations such as “I am worthy of love” every day. This thought will, in time, develop into belief. And once you believe it, it becomes true.

Imagination Creates Your Reality

Based on the teachings of the American philosopher Neville Lancelot Goddard, the law of assumption is a powerful tool for manifesting your ideal life. This simple idea is powerful and easy to use.

The most difficult part is challenging the beliefs and assumptions that you accepted and replacing them with more beneficial ones.

The concept of your assumptions affecting your reality is something everyone would agree on. There isn’t anyone who achieved something or failed at something just because they did or didn’t believe they could do it.

Even if you don’t believe in it, the positive thinking it encourages can change your life.
