Sometimes, you will meet a girl and she will instantly take your breath away.
She won’t be like any other girl you’ve ever met… This one will be different.
You will see her, meet her, get close to her, and she will be special. There will be something about her that simply radiates positivity and beauty, and you will find yourself head over heels for her.
Whenever she speaks, you will be all ears, as every word out of her mouth sounds like a melody made just for your ears. When she walks into a room, she looks like an angel that has been put on this earth to make your life more meaningful and enchanting.
The way her hair flows in a gentle breeze is so mesmerizing, and her look is that of pure love and kindness.
She is one in a million. And you’re a lucky son of a gun who gets to call her yours.
You will spend an incredible amount of time together, and you won’t be able to believe how you get to be so damn lucky… Until it stops.
One day, things just won’t work anymore between you two. You won’t even know what hit you, but when this girl leaves you, it’s like a punch in your gut that takes a hell of a long time to recover from.
You will suddenly be left without this person who has been making your life so much more meaningful, and you won’t know how to recover from this. She was your ‘one’.
And now, you’re left with nothing but memories of your time together, and you can’t get her out of your head.
You just can’t stop thinking about her and rewinding the time, trying to figure out what the hell went wrong.
To other people, she may seem like just a regular girl who looks really cute and has a charming personality, but to you, she was the most special girl you’ve ever encountered… and no one really gets it. Not like you.
She has left such a profound impact on your life, and it’s not like any other break-up you’ve dealt with before. You know that this one will be much more difficult to overcome.
No matter what you do, how much you try, you can’t stop thinking about her, and worse off… you know you can’t win her back.
Your heart is completely shattered, and you just want to be able to stop thinking about it for at least a day.
This is a challenging time in your life, and nobody can take this away from you. You’re going through a horrible loss, and you deserve to grieve properly. But before you do, it’s important that you take the right steps while trying to heal from it.
You need accept this new reality for what it is, and try, really try to get over her, because the longer you keep her in your head, the harder it will be to get through this.
So here are a few things that will hopefully make this transition easier for you, help you get over this painful break-up, and get you your zest for life back.
Get off her social media
You’re trying to get this girl out of your head, and you’re creeping on her social media? If so, you need to stop with that, like yesterday.
The only way to stop thinking about her is by removing her from your online accounts because seeing her face all over your social media is going to make it that much harder to forget about her.
You’ll never get over someone you see every single day. So do yourself a favor, and if you’re not going to delete her from your friends list (which is okay) than stop following her, and hide her activity. It’s that simple.
And that’s your first healthy step toward regaining your normal routine and getting your mind off of this painful journey to healing.
The second her face pops up in your head, shut it down with other thoughts
This takes a lot of self-control and willpower, but it’s imperative if you truly want to stop thinking about her.
Every single time she pops into your head, decide to think about something completely different.
Try to figure out what to cook for dinner that day or plan in your head to go visit your parents that weekend.
Try to think of some fun activity you could preoccupy yourself with, and without even realizing it, you’ll actually be planning a weekend hangout, and your mind will be free of her.
It’s no easy task, and it’s even more difficult when you have all of these feelings for her… but if you give it a real go, it could help you for real.
Also, don’t think about the exact same thing every time she pops into your mind.
That way, you’ll instantly be reminded of her again. Instead, think of a different thing that can in no way be associated with her.
Keep busy in your social life
It’s hard getting over someone when you’re cooped up all alone in your apartment, with just your thoughts and memories.
You’re not making it any easier on yourself by ostracizing yourself from the world.
Instead, make plans with your buddies to have a fun night out. Plan an activity that will be fun, physical, and all-encompassing which will leave little time to think about anything else.
When your friends invite you somewhere, don’t think about it, and just go.
Pining after her all alone at home will get you nowhere, so get yourself off that couch, and spend quality time with your friends who surely want to help you in this process.
It’s hard getting yourself to do it, but once you do, you’ll be so happy you did.
Promise! It’s always hardest at the beginning, but once you start getting your groove back, you’ll see that you have a pretty good life, pretty amazing friends, and things will start to look up.
Get yourself someone new to think about
As you’re out there, getting your groove back with your friends out on the town, you will inevitably meet a bunch of new girls who might draw some interest from you.
There is nothing wrong with some flirty good times with an attractive girl who seems pretty into you as well.
It’s just innocent fun, and you have every right and reason to indulge yourself!
So if it happens that you’ve come across someone you’re a least a little attracted to… give it a shot, and see where it goes.
Maybe this girl wants nothing but a fun night as well, and you can let her help you get your ex out of your head.
Who knows, you just might meet someone new who will captivate you and truly get you to stop thinking about the ex, but even if that’s not the case, you’ll get some fun in the sun with a cute girl, and it will most definitely help improve your mood… if you catch my drift.
Focus on your other interests
Surely, you have hobbies or other things you do in your free time, right?
Maybe you go to the gym, play in a band or even volunteer at a children’s shelter!
Whatever it is, dedicate even more time to it! Focusing on other things in your life that bring you joy will help you get out of that funk and see the beauty in the world again.
Don’t let the thought of her take away other things that make you happy in life! The more time you spend doing positive things that you’re passionate about, the less time you’ll have to think about her.
Set new goals for yourself
This is really about keeping your mind busy at all times, so that you don’t have any time to dedicate to anything negative or discouraging.
So maybe this is the best time to think about your future and what it is that you still want to accomplish.
It doesn’t have to be anything big. Just a little project that will occupy your time and leave as little time as possible to be thinking about her.
It can be fitness-related, work-related or even a project around the house that you’ve been wanting to do for a while now.
Paint those walls a new color, get a brand new bedroom or renovate your backyard.
Whatever it is, make sure it’s something that will bring a positive change into your life and make it better one way or another.
Vent to your buddies
What are real friends for, if not for being your support system when you’re going through a difficult time?
Be honest with them. Admit that you just can’t stop thinking about her, and you desperately need help in ridding your mind of the painful memories of your time together.
Your buddies will be happy that you feel comfortable enough to confide in them with this sensitive and touchy subject, and they will be all hands on deck trying to help you get through this.
Also, just talking about it will be such a relief. When you have genuine friends who truly want to be there for you, it’s such a reassuring feeling being able to confide in them and let them help you carry this burden.
Let it all out, and until it feels better, don’t stop. You’re only human, and never feel weak about having feelings and going through dark periods.
We all go through this; there’s no shame in it. Only a real man is capable of bearing his soul and keeping it real with himself. So be proud of yourself, and let your friends be there for you.
You will only end up that much happier for having such a true support system around yourself.
It will surely help you to stop thinking about her and also, connect with your friends on an even deeper level.
