What is wife material exactly? Who writes the rules? Who makes up the standards? Who guarantees that fitting the box of wife material will guarantee a happy marriage?
I really started to worry when I read some articles about what makes good wife material. It’s like the 1950’s all over again.
Basically, they are saying that a woman should be obedient and serve her husband, that she should have maternal instincts and be a homemaker, and so on and so on.
And all I can say is that is all BS. A woman doesn’t have to do anything or be anything unless she wants to. For the right men, that will constitute perfect wife material.
There are so many things people say a woman should and shouldn’t do, but there is only one that is true: all you should do is stay true to yourself, and be honest about it.
So what if you don’t want to give up your career, ambitions and dreams to fit the role of a wife? The two shouldn’t exclude one another.
Why wouldn’t you cook and prepare delicious meals if you enjoyed doing that? Why wouldn’t you be a stay-at-home mom if you wanted to?
When it comes to relationships, labels are a positive thing. But when it comes to labeling a woman, labels are completely unnecessary.
You can do and be whatever you set your mind and heart to. You are a woman after all.
Don’t let anybody shape you to fit their box. Don’t let them tell you that a woman who is wife material laughs when she feels like crying.
Don’t let them tell you that a woman stays silent when she feels the need to speak. Problems should be faced and discussed, not mopped under the carpet.
Don’t let them tell you that a woman should sacrifice her own happiness for the man she loves. When love is true, there is no need for sacrifice and putting yourself last.
Don’t let them tell you that you should put up with somebody’s poor behavior, cheating or abuse because you are his wife on paper. If you were truly a wife in his heart, he would never treat you like that.
The man you are supposed to be with will accept you just the way you are. He will admire your virtues and embrace your flaws as you will his.
He won’t try to change you. He won’t push you to do anything you don’t want to do. He will never try to make you feel less. Instead, he will adore your uniqueness.
The truth is for the right man, your soulmate, your best friend and your lover, you will be wife material without trying to be one. You will be the best wife material there is because he will love all of you just the way you are.
