After a recent break-up, I started contemplating what I did wrong. Different questions were coming to my mind. Questions like: Did I show too much affection to him and scare him? Did I expect too much of him? Am I simply hard to love?
And then I realized that none of it was true. The only truth is: We accept the love we think we deserve. What does this mean? It means we are unintentionally limiting ourself when it comes to love. We give more than we are able to give and we receive less than we deserve.
Why do we fall in love with people who don’t deserve us?
Why do we choose someone when we subconsciously know that he’s not a good choice for us? Why do we always hope that the person will change or that we will change them? We fool ourself to believe that this is the right thing to do.
We choose to enjoy small loves because we think we will never experience the big one. We waste great amounts of our time on someone who is not worthy of one second. And we realize all of this when it’s too late.
We think we don’t deserve better and that is why we settle for people who treat us badly.
We accept other people’s lies, manipulations and their toxic behavior just because we think we don’t deserve better than that. But this is not true. We deserve much, much better and greater things than we are settling for. We deserve someone who will be there for us when we are scared.
We deserve someone who will treat us with respect and admiration. We deserve someone who will always think of us because we are a part of their being. And we should never stop believing it. People who treat us badly don’t deserve us! And that is the only truth.
We think we’ll never be good enough.
We think we have to be perfect in order to be loved by another human being. How cruel of us to think that. We think we’ll never be good enough because we don’t allow ourself to fail. If we don’t allow ourself to fail, we will never be able to improve ourself. We are good enough.
You are good enough! If they don’t like you the way you are, they certainly don’t deserve you. You should never change only to fit the definition of perfect. You are not perfect and that is more than okay. You are good enough for everyone else but you’re not good to yourself. Be good to yourself!
We think we are unworthy of love.
You don’t have to worry that you’re unworthy of love because real love is not picky. Real love appreciates all of our quirks, flaws and imperfections and turns them into perfection. We are not unworthy of love, we are just giving our love to the wrong people who are not able to reciprocate.
Love should be easy, like a summer breeze, but we keep making it hard for ourself. We keep giving second chances when we know we shouldn’t. We keep hoping that they will change when we know they won’t. We keep giving our heart even though we know that it will be broken. We forget that we deserve to be loved. And we forget to love ourself.
You deserve to be loved.
You deserve to feel free of all the troubles you’ve gone through and you deserve to experience the essence of true love. You deserve someone who will never stop reminding you how beautiful you truly are, inside and out.
Love yourself.
You should be proud of yourself and you should only accept love that lifts you up, that inspires you and makes you become the best version of yourself. Accept the love that is cheerful and full of life. Accept the love that stays.
