You met someone and it was an instant connection. It felt like you had known them forever. Soulmate, is that you?
But, no, it turned out to be just a painful life lesson. Thanks, universe!
Sometimes, you meet a person who is clearly not your soulmate and things between you are not working, but the chemistry is so intoxicating that you can´t let them go. It happened to me, and I’m sure it has happened to you at least once.
Welcome to the roller-coaster ride of love, hate, and passion called a KARMIC RELATIONSHIP.
I’ve been kissed by her majesty, Karma, more than once (jeez, what was I doing in my previous lives?). So, I’m here to share with you what exactly a karmic relationship is, how to recognize it, and how to survive mind-losing karmic relationship stages.
Welcome To The Roller Coaster: 11 Karmic Relationship Stages
If I had to pick one word to describe a karmic romantic relationship, I’d go with INTENSE.
From the very first moment, this type of relationship is filled with strong emotions that will many times leave you breathless.
It starts with an instant connection and a feeling of mutual understanding without a word being said. That’s why this kind of relationship often gets mistaken for a soulmate connection.
Further down the road, it will get wilder. Since the purpose of a karmic relationship is to dissolve the ego, your ego will hurt the most. Feelings of jealousy, possessiveness, and obsession can even lead to mental and emotional abuse in the relationship.
Sounds scary? Oh, I’ve never said it was going to be fun.
From a magical love story to a toxic relationship, these are the stages of a karmic relationship:
1. Otherworldly romance
It starts in a second.
From the very first moment you meet your karmic partner, the attraction is mind-blowing. You two had an instant connection, and it feels like you’ve known each other forever.
It’s like some magnetic magical force that draws you to this stranger. But, every love relationship begins like that, doesn’t it?
2. You crave more
Every moment you spend together is like a fairytale, and you two have such a deep connection. The only problem is… it’s never enough!
With each step that you get closer to them comes a hunger for more. Your body and soul crave this person’s presence. It’s hard to stay focused on anything else because they are on your mind all the time.
Oh, honey, they are drugs and you’re getting addicted.
3. Drama, drama, drama
From feeling blessed and the happiest you have ever been, you soon start to feel confused. The passion and attraction are stronger, but now it’s often mixed with negative states like anger or even disgust.
You make love one moment, then fight like two angry wolves the next. Break-ups and make-ups are consistent.
All relationships go through highs and lows, but this one feels like a total roller coaster. You experience a vast range of emotions in a short period of time, from love and lust to anger, rage, and hate.
How can you love and hate a person at the same time?
4. You sense danger
Healthy relationships should create a safe space for us where we can be our true authentic selves. But, this one is starting to feel exactly the opposite.
Even when things are going fine between you, this feeling that something is off is always present. And, constant drama is making you so drained and confused that you’re not sure anymore. Is it your intuition or just paranoia?
You also start to notice the toxic traits of your partner. In the beginning, they seemed like the nicest person in the world, but very soon, they started behaving like a narcissist.
You don’t feel safe around your partner because you never know if the thing you say or do will hurt their ego and make them go against you.
5. Patterns are repeating
Here you are, talking about the same issue you talked about last week. And, the week before that, and the one before.
The same issue is repeated frequently no matter how hard you try to resolve it and work things through. Sometimes, it seems like you two finally found common ground, but two days later, you face the same old problem again.
You feel stuck and confused, not sure who is to blame for that.
6. Codependency arises
Such a turbulent dynamic is completely consuming you.
You are dealing with a lot of drama, so your brain can not focus on anything else outside the relationship. And, when you’re not fighting, you’re having the sweetest moment of your life. In any case, your mind is always on your partner and you barely think about anything else.
7. Communication has become impossible
In the beginning, you were able to understand each other without saying a word, but now you don’t understand each other even with a thousand words. Conversations frequently turn into fights, so you stop trying anymore.
And, when you stop talking, miscommunication is inevitable.
You make more space for assumptions and judgment. Instead of openly discussing issues, you start putting up possible scenarios in your head. That creates even more tension, and keeps the cycle of misunderstanding and miscommunication going on and on.
8. The monster in you shows up
This type of relationship will eventually bring out your dark side that you won’t be able to recognize yourself.
You start showing toxic characteristics that were never there before. For instance, you were never jealous before, but now your crippling possessiveness makes you crazy all the time.
But, despite everything… breaking up is not an option for you. Not yet.
9. You feel tired
After all the drama and craziness of this toxic relationship, you become very tired. Sweet and blissful moments you two experience (when you’re not creating drama) don’t give you joy and happiness as before. You feel exhausted.
However, the thought of your partner and you parting ways is still scary as hell and you’re not ready for it.
10. You try to let go… and then try again
You know that friend of yours who was going back to their toxic ex over and over again? You never understood what was in their head.
Now, you are that friend, and you don’t judge them anymore.
Breaking a karmic bond is not easy, and only the strongest ones manage to cut the cord right away and set themselves free. The rest of us will probably struggle to let go, even if it’s clear that there is no future.
You’re aware that if you care about your well-being, you will have to leave. But, the magnetic force between you and your karmic soulmate is still there and it’s hard to resist.
11. Breaking the karmic cycle
This is the point where you are truly ready to let go. That’s it, you’re done.
A breakup may come suddenly, provoked by something small and otherwise insignificant.
But, you started the process of separating a long time ago, and you have been waiting for the moment when you’d finally be ready to leave.
After all the struggles and agony that a karmic connection brings, then comes the revelation. Lessons have been learned, and karmic debt has been paid off.
You are free.
The Concept Of A Karmic Relationship
The concept of karma means our existence is not linear, but rather cyclical. We frequently appear and disappear from one incarnation to another. On that journey, we connect with other souls.
Karmic relationships represent a spiritual connection between two people that started before this lifetime and is being rekindled again.
The reason for their reunion is that they carry some unresolved issues from their past life. To continue on their path of spiritual awakening, they first need to face their “unfinished business”.
Karmic relationships are the ones that will speed up our process of growth the most. They will have no mercy for the ego, tearing down everything impure and burning our karmic debt.
Karmic relationships are not just romantic ones. Connections with family members or friends can also be karmic.
Karmic Or A True Love/Twin Flame Relationship?
Karmic relationships, with their power and intensity, often resemble soulmate relationships or twin flame relationships, especially at the early stages. Two people are drawn to each other with a huge magnetic force, and it feels like they are meant to be.
But, are they really? Is a karmic soulmate equal to a true soulmate?
Although you may find both in one person; it’s not usually the case.
- KARMIC RELATIONSHIPS happen when it’s time to resolve issues from the past life that were holding you back from further evolving. The person you have a karmic bond with is not your soulmate, but rather a lesson you need to learn to release karma.
- A SOULMATE is someone we have a deep connection with on a soul level. Such a relationship is usually not so turbulent, although it can be challenging in other ways. We meet our soulmates after our karma is purified and our ego is dissolved. Soulmate love often happens after we are done with karmic relationships.
- TWIN FLAME RELATIONSHIPS are different from both. A twin flame is a person who is there to question and eventually change our self-perception. They are mirroring us and teaching us lessons about self-love and self-worth.
Even with all these things being said, differentiating a karmic from a soulmate or a twin flame relationship is not easy. Relationships are complex, and there are no well-distinguished rules you can follow when it comes to maintaining one. All of them will be challenging in some way.
Then, how can you know if yours is a karmic relationship?
What are the common signs of a karmic relationship?
Despite your partner being your true love connection, ups and downs will still happen in your relationship. You will fight and you will face obstacles and challenges. Truth to be told, you will hate them sometimes.
But, if the turbulence is constantly making you feel like you’re losing your mind, and this person is taking you into the dark realms of your inner world – congratulations, karma is calling you. You’re about to achieve significant spiritual uplifting.
After all the drama, of course.
Can Karmic Soulmates Stay Together?
There’s no rule that says karmic relationships have to end. However, they usually end.
Most karmic relationships don’t survive perpetual ups and downs, and they can easily turn into toxic relationships where partners are constantly trying to destroy each other. Such a relationship is destined to end eventually.
For a karmic relationship to survive and transform into a healthy one, both karmic partners need to commit to growth. They need to evolve spiritually. If that’s not possible, then the relationship has no future.
